PROGRESS WITH THE LIB DEMS

Lib Dems do make a difference - now it’s official !
In 2002, Government auditors rated Labour-run Waltham Forest among the worst councils in the country.
After the last local elections, the Lib.Dems. took over three of the Council’s ten cabinet portfolios. In these there have been notable improvements, as officially recognised.The three Lib.Dem. posts cover:
* Housing - awarded three out of four stars;
* Corporate Services - awarded three stars; and
* Community Safety (outside the star system) - a winner of many awards, including the RaceActionNet Awards, and recognised nationally for new initiatives such as the "Beat Sweep" (praised by the Government) and "Defendin’ Da Hood", which promotes respect and deters anti-social behaviour.
As evidence of what a Liberal Democrat Council can achieve, the Audit Commission has rated Islington as the fastest improving council in the country. Another example is Sutton, the longest-run Liberal Democrat authority in London, which has a maximum award of four stars.
