Hanging baskets for Highams Park
Local residents have expressed their approval of the hanging baskets which now brighten the Highams Park shopping centre.
This was a project of the Highams Park Residents' Association which was voted for by the South.Chingford and Highams Park Community Council to receive funding.

Chingford Festival on the Green
Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr.Sheila Smith-Pryor (Lib Dem, Hale End & Highams Park ward) visits her Liberal Democrat colleagues working on the Lib Dem stall at the Chingford Festival ! The Festival attracted crowds of people to Chingford Green on a warm sunny day (Saturday, 28th.June).
There were 10 raffle prizes. For the record: the winning numbers were 205; 82; 108; 45; 111; 106; 212; 102; 48; 25.

A Disgrace !
Local Liberal Democrats are pressing for action to deal with the eyesore of this accumulation of rubbish on a grassed area at the end of Hale End Road, E17 near the Forest Road junction.
There can be no excuse for piles of rubbish disfiguring our borough.

***GOOD NEWS*** !
After Cllr.John Beanse contacted the Director of Ascham Homes (responsible for the site), the rubbish was quickly shifted. Many thanks to Ascham Homes for their speedy response !

Lib Dems win Forest ward by-election
The result of the by-election held in Forest ward, Waltham Forest on Thursday, June 12th. was as follows:
Turnout 32.33 per cent, 2,661 votes cast
SAMINA SAFDAR (LIB DEM) 977
Jawade Liaqat (Labour) 927
Edwin Northover (Conservative) 507
Mark Dawes (Green) 184
Makola Mayambika (Left List) 56
This result brings the numbers of councillors back to
Labour 25; Lib Dems 20; Con.15

Green action

This is the first paper recycling facility to be opened at a transport hub in the borough.
National Express and the council are looking at ways of installing these facilities at main line stations across the borough.
The council is talking to LU with a view to having recycling at all Underground stations by the end of the year.

Trust(s) in the NHS
Commenting on Government plans for private firms to be drafted in to run struggling NHS hospitals and primary care trusts in England, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said:
"This begs the question: why are so many hospitals are failing in the first place?
"With superbugs at high levels in many failing hospitals, poor performance can literally be a matter of life and death for patients, and sorting this out should be our top priority.
"Changing the management of hospitals is not necessarily the right solution, yet the Government persists in rushing headlong down this route.
"What is absolutely scandalous about this proposal is the option for private companies to be in charge of primary care trusts. These trusts take vital decisions on hospital treatment and access to drugs. Subcontracting these to private companies is not acceptable.
"The Liberal Democrats would ensure that these decisions were made by an elected local body."
