THE GOOD NEWS STORY !

MEMORIAL STONE IN PLACE
at the GOOD MEMORIAL GARDENS, corner of Priory Avenue, junction Old Church Road, E4
Local Liberal Democrats are pleased to report that the Council’s Conservation Officer has arranged for a memorial stone by the steps up to the Good Memorial Gardens and that the stone is now in place.
The Liberal Democrats had taken up the issue when discovering that these gardens (which needed attention at the time) - situated below the Old Church - were originally known as the “Good Memorial Gardens”. Requests for information in FOCUS newsletters and contacts with Vestry House museum brought the desired results to solve the mystery of the name. Chingford & Woodford Green Lib.Dems.’ Chairman John Beanse also had contacts with a surviving member of the family who lives in Devon and has kept her informed of developments throughout.
The inscription reads:

GOOD MEMORIAL GARDEN Presented to Chingford Urban District Council by the sons of Mr.Thomas Good on the death of their father in 1932.

(The Council tree logo appears on the lower part of the stone). There is now also quite a clear view across the gardens up to the Old Church (see photo below).
John Beanse said: “It is very pleasing to see the Council’s response on this issue and for our heritage to be preserved and respected in this way. Many thanks are due to the Council's Conservation Officer and also to those who provided last year the necessary information we were looking for.”

Turning into and out of BEECH HALL ROAD at the HALE END ROAD junction, HIGHAMS PARK should now be easier, thanks to the KEEP CLEAR markings successfully requested by the Lib.Dems. on behalf of local residents.

DANGEROUS JUNCTION

HAZARDOUS RIGHT-TURN from CHELMSFORD ROAD into WOODFORD HIGH ROAD
John Beanse was driving along the Woodford High Road yesterday and witnessed the results of the latest accident of several recently at this dangerous junction - and so was able to take the picture below.
He comments:
1. Apparently residents in Oak Hill area (Waltham Forest) want the island to help them cross the High Road - though now some may be having doubts about safety issues.
2. Residents in Chelmsford Rd. area (Redbridge) do not want a NO RIGHT TURN at the end of their road (which would in any case have implications for other local streets).
3. My suggestion of warning sign-boards on lamp-posts at the end of Chelmsford Road has so far been resisted by Redbridge Council officers.
4. THE JUNCTION IS DANGEROUS! Something does need to be done. Motorists unfamiliar with the area are at particular risk. They pull out of Chelmsford Rd. looking left to seize on a gap in the traffic and then veer into the island as they turn right.

Yet another accident in quite a series - junction CHELMSFORD ROAD/WOODFORD HIGH ROAD (see report above)

SUCCESS !

GOOD NEWS !
As requested by local Liberal Democrats, KEEP CLEAR markings have now been put on the road at the junction at the end of BEECH HALL ROAD, Highams Park, with HALE END ROAD. This should assist vehicles turning into and out of Beech Hall Road when traffic is queuing along Hale End Road with the level crossing barriers down.
