VICTORY FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

COURT REJECTS REGAL APPEALS
The sustained eight month “Regal” campaign of the Highams Park Residents’ Association had a very successful outcome on Friday, March 10th.
An all-day hearing at Waltham Forest Magistrates’ Court saw two Regal Social Club appeals against decisions of the Council’s Licensing Panel dismissed outright, and one other previous condition changed just a bit. The Magistrates decided:
1. Not to agree the original hours application - which would have allowed opening until 3.00am on Friday mornings and 6.00am on Saturdays and Sundays, plus 30 minutes drinking-up time each day
2. Not to agree admittance beyond 2.00am of Club customers
3. To require Club management to attend quarterly meetings arranged by the Residents’ Association and Highams Park Forum (instead of the Regal making the arrangements) - in order to hear any residents’ concerns
Residents will be pleased that the attempt to open all through the night twice a week has been refused.

Comments:
The hearing was very well attended - mainly by those opposing the Regal's plans. The result brought success to a campaign by the Residents' Association which had included a petition with over 550 signatures.
